DSC_0378.jpg this is a back, shoulder, and eye saver. I can also use the base as a platform to work on. simple to make. only four dowels and the wooden top and bottom plates are sized to the vice base

fritz,
Very nice workmanship; red oak top/bottom? Interestingly enough, I wish I could lower my vise; sits too high on the table.

Scott
Scott,
Have you looked into this accessory to lower your vise? The picture shows the accessory going into the clamp at the top of the clamp, but, it can be put in at the bottom of the clamp which gives you a large range to lower your vise plus allow you to swing your vise toward you. Just a thought to lower your vise.

Fly fishing and fly tying are two things that I do, and when I am doing them, they are the only 2 things I think about. They clear my mind.
yes left over red oak from another project. having the space between top and bottom is an added plus to lay down tools temporarily. I decided upon this project because while I tried to work on a lower chair, my legs were feeling the crunch as I'm well over 6 feet tall. Now I can save a lot of undue wear and tear
Chewy, got a grin out of that! I miss your fireside wit! That one reminded me of the title, Don't raise the bridge, Lower the river.

I made the right decision, Warren. I miss the mountains, but am really appreciating a lot of things down here.
