Thread: rod handle repair

    Default rod handle repair

I have an older 9' 6wt Orvis that has a split between the rings of the handle. The split goes completely around the handle, and there is some "slap" in the cork now.
I am not all that concerned about making the repair cosmetically perfect. This is just an older chuck and duck bugger rod. My first thought was to simply whip up some epxoy and smear it in. Is this a bad idea?
    Any advice is appreciated.

You might try mixing some epoxy, dipping a small plastic soda straw it to get some epoxy in the straw and then inserting it in the crack. Even if the straw flattens a bit that's OK. Then blow on the other end to force the epoxy deep into the cork, hopefully getting it to the blank.
