    Default Red Quill Emerger

Came across a Red Quill Emerger pattern, I improvised on the hackle but everything else matches the pattern.

    #14 Hook
    Bronze mallard flank - Tail
Red Stripped hackle stem - Abdomen
Chocolate color antron dubbing - Thorax
    Bronze mallard flank - Collar
    Coat Abdomen in head cement
The measurements of fly fishing: 1 part man, 1 part fish, and all God.

Very nice, I'd bet that would work well as a spinner fished just awash as well. Was it a natural or dyed hackle stem?
    Cheers,

    LilJoe,

I like that fly. I could see how it could be effective for early spring eastern streams.

    Thanks!

Thanks! And yeah I'd say it would work well that way too. The hackle is dyed, I think the name of the color is root beer but it's a very bright red.

    Joe,

I'm headed to the Smokys at the end of April / first of May. Will the quills still be around then?

I was there last year in May and I think that I was a little late for them.

    Brian,

If the March Brown hatch is on it could, as Alan said, be used as a sunken spinner.

    Regards,
    Scott

    Brian,

As Scott and Alan said, it very well could be used as a spinner. Also I did a little research to make sure I was telling you correctly, but quills should be in the Smokys in April, but in May from what I can gather, it'll be early early that month that they would be around.
