    Default Derek's Marabou Damsel SBS




    A little bit more involved than Kaufmann's but not much.


    hook - Dai Riki 270 #10
    thread - MFC 8/0 light olive
    tail - marabou olive
    body - marabou olive
    rib - copper wire x-fine
    legs/wing case - marabou olive
    eyes - 25lb Amnesia/green glass beads



    Part 1


    mash barb, attach thread







    the eyes have it










    tie in ribbing and wrap back to hook barb







    measure marabou (hook gap length past bend) and tie in










    wrap butt ends forward, forming body







    wrap rib

    Part 2

    assume the ventral position; measure another marabou feather for length and tie in






    rightside up, pull marabou butts over top, tie down behind eyes; half hitch x2, SHHAN, trim wing case

    great looking fly. will have to tie some up. deadly pond and lake pattern for bluegill and whatnot around my parts. thank you for the SBS. crisp, clear photography and precise instructions. much appreciated. i am assuming you made the eyes?

    Like so:


    thread beads on to mono




    melt one end (butane lighter works best)




    set gap; I use needlenose pliers but tweezers or whatever will do




    trim mono to length




    again with the lighter




    there you go



    plain melted mono would work just fine, but these are pretty simple and look cool

    nice looking pattern.

    really like the tip on making the eyes, never thought of using beads on the burnt mono. think that their maybe a lot of eyes in my future

    Are those eye colors usually found in the naturals in nature?

    Your SBS instructions are outstanding! Nice looking pattern and very easy to follow instructions with great pictures to guide you. What more can you ask for? Thanks for sharing.

    Not on any that I've ever seen. I borrowed them from Jim McClenaghan's Dramsel pattern. He used it on Crane Prairie; believed the red pupils helped draw strikes.
