    Joe,

There are lots of opportunities to volunteer and do good work with scouts. Helping at the local level with a single troop is great and I certainly wouldn't discourage you from considering the opportunity or the impact you can make. Be open to other things such as assisting on the district or council levels, being involved in one of several committees, or providing service at the local scout camp. I currently work as a Unit Commissioner but I'm also very active with our Order of the Arrow Lodge and chapter. There are hundreds of ways to get involved and help with scouting. I applaud and encourage you to get involved at whatever level you're interested. It really does make an impact and a difference. I've seen some really outstanding youth in the program. Get out there and make a difference!
