    Default Time to get "serious"

Back to the (early season) tailwater stuff. No sense trying to tie these in the truck with a headlamp; it's warm inside and my fingers work. What they may lack in aesthetics, they make up for in effectiveness and ease of tying.

    Zebras

    traditional

    sunburned

    Firebead Scud

    Firebead Ray Charles Softhackle

same fly with UV Ice dub instead of ostrich

    Bloom's Weight Fly

Bloom's Weight Fly Dark (pretty much a Grape Slushy on steroids)

    Rainbow Warrior

    Scott

what are you using to coat your zebra midges with, looks like it would make them a lot more durable

    John,

Couple coats of nail polish (Sally Hansen). These were spiffed up since they were getting their picture taken; usually I just brush one thinned coat and that's provided all the protection they've needed.

Bloom's weight fly dark........ I bet that dubbing looks buggy when it is wet! Lots of dark shine.

It's UV, too (Ice Dub Brown, which kinda comes out as purplish),so it has that going for it, which is nice.

Takes about 15 minutes for the feeling to come back to my feet when I get out of the water but that’s springtime in Montana for you.

Caught these, among others (all rainbows)

    Here

    Using this

Fished a 2-fly rig with the fire bead scud that worked so well a few days ago and only took them on the zebra; a different river today but I found that interesting. Wish I had brought my neoprene waders; USGS flow data said the water temp was 42 today but it took the 3/4 mile walk back to the truck for the feeling to come back to my feet.

    Scott
