    nice looking flies scott,

what do you use to get the high gloss finish on the head. i used gudbrod rod varnish for about 40 years, but they have gone out of business. now i use rod dancer rod varnish works great, but im tired of paying $7 shipping for a $3 item.

are you folding or wrapping your soft hackles

    John,

It's just Sally Hansen; the trick is to take the picture while it's still wet.
The hackles are tip-tied and swept back while wrapping.

sally hanson's "top coat" works better. leaves a shine and dries in 30 seconds.

Excellent ties Scott... I've enjoyed your recent "classic" patterns.... I never tie these as I have all I can do to refill my boxes and my fly shop orders. They have been fun to see, Doug.

Great looking flies. I really like the Claret Guinea. Eye catching.
    Trout don't speak Latin.

I realy like these flies, I suppose they are Steel/head or other sea-run flies?
What are the hook sizes? they would be excellent sea-trout here in the UK.

Donald- I have missed your site and when I clicked on it today it still wouldn't show. I like trying some of the older English style wet flies here in the USA. Ron

    Donald,

The Spade was developed by Bob Arnold for steelhead back in the 60's, I believe. I tied these on a Dai Riki 799 #6.
