Ive got two good books on starting thread, still Im about ready to explode. Any little tricks would be appreciated. Fly tying didnt seem that hard, but this is drvin me crazy. thanks

I think the mistake most people make in starting thread wraps on both flies and rods is not appling tension, that is tension to both ends. If you leave the tag end without tension, the wrap will not lock.

Clyde, sounds like your wraps keep coming loose? One thing I learned is once you start the thread, keep one finger on it all the times. I do my wraps by hand and as I'm turning the rod I alternate my index fingers as I turn the rod, holding the thread in place for at least 4 turns, then I make a couple more turns and pull the tag end in the opposite direction to tighten it up. Then trim the tag end off. Hope this helps. you can email me if you have any questions.

jc, sorry guess i wasnt that clear. chasepike nailed it thogh. everything kept comin loose the finger trick and following wrap for four turns worked. thanks chasepike
