Thread: Dubbing brushes...gratis

    Default Dubbing brushes...gratis

Over the years...since getting my first dubbing brush platform from Jim Smith....I've used dubbing brushes and often would experiment and have ended up with many extra's that I won't use so I'll send some to anyone ...[in the states] that would like them.

I won't vouch for the quality but they have served me well. The colors vary so I'll just send a mixture in a regular long office letter envelope and believe about a dozen will fit. They are tied with 34 gauge wire...copper /silver /brass . The price is right.... free and includes postage....just PM me your address...I think there is room.

Fly fishing and fly tying are two things that I do, and when I am doing them, they are the only 2 things I think about. They clear my mind.

I've had limited success making my own brushes by hand. Whatever you'd like to share would be very gratefully received!

    Many thanks,

    Ducksterman,

What a great idea! Make a very generous offer and then tell people that the first person to send a PM gets the goods, knowing that your mailbox is full Just kidding. Very nice gesture and I'm sure the lucky recipient will enjoy them and find that they really add some new creativeness to the bench.

    Have a wonderful Christmas.

    duckster,

Nice gesture. Years ago, like 20, I saw my first dubbing brush maker at the Int'l Fly Tying Symposium. My friend, who was a little bit of a tool maker, made a few similar ones for himself and me. Although I still have it, I've rarely used it. Maybe I will now that I've been reminded about it. Where do you get the 34 gauge wire? Do you ever use just thread. Anyway, have a wonderful Christmas.

    Allan,
My copper wire is salvage from electrical wire etc. It comes in various sizes and I find I like what seems to be 34 ga the best....maybe if I was trying to throw half a chicken up in Alaska I'd use heavier.

I get the 34 ga at JoAnn's in silver and brass...[use a coupon]....and I haven't locally found it any where else.

Any chance you could show us pictures of what they were like 20 years ago?

I don't use thread because I figure the brush relies on the bendable qualities of the wire...unlike thread that furls.

    Hi Ducksterman,

I am not looking for any of the brushes, but just wanted to thank you for being generous to the folks here.

    Thanks and regards,

    Gandolf
