Allen. I find that horse tail makes very good ribbing. You have to sort through the correct size for the fly it is used for, but the dark hair on light bodies does work for me very well, and it is easy to work with. Try twisting two different colors together for pheasant tail type body. You might also try the hair for split tails and antennas. The options are endless. Crunchy

Horse tail hair works well for beetles, ants and other small fly legs and bodies. Using Mane I tied some SWHAPF and caught fish. Used clipped body hair as dubbing.

There is a whole series of flies using woven horse hair for bodies, called "Sandy May, Sandy might" etc. Google Potts hair flies, I believe he was from Misoula Montana.

One of my daughter's friends were into dressage during high school. She saved me a bundle of clipped mane. I believe it could be used in lieu of microfibbetts for tails or antennas.
