I live in southeast Nebraska, no trout for at least 4 hours of driving time. I started fly fishing when I was 10, tying when I was 13. Never got a chance to catch a trout on the fly until I was 17 years old. Every year the Junior chemistry class took a trip to YSNP with the teacher and her husband. We got to our cabins, unpacked, ate, and relaxed. With an hour to spare before dark I busted out the fly rod and a self-made damsel nymph. In about five minutes I caught the most beautiful 5 inch fish I had ever seen. It nearly brought tears of joy. Since then I've travelled and caught some more trout, most of them much larger than my first. But the brook trout will always be special to me.
