Default Amazing video of a 41.7", 35 lb brown trout

Caught without a reel! The angler uses a cane rod and the line is gathered on a wooden frame.

Nice fish...ridiculous and unethical methodology. Let's see how that works for him when he's in his fifties

That's a Nantucket Sleigh Ride; guy must have feet like a grizzly. If I tried that on the Madison, they'd find my body somewhere down by Ennis Lake.

Why does his rod not have any bend to it the whole time? Looks suspicios to me.

Ridiculous, yes. I'm not sure about the "unethical" part. Seems to be more drama than necessary which makes me suspicious, too.

I posted the video on another BB and here is the commentary of someone who understands what is being said, and where the fish was caught.

"The Dranse River flows into Lake Geneva from the high surrounding Alps. It's a relatively short river, popular for recreation like rafting. Lake Geneva, also known as Lac leman, is a huge, deep lake (similar to Chelan). Few people fish on it for sport anymore as it has suffered significant fish declines, especially perch, which is a national dish in Switzerland. Today most perch served in Swiss restaurants come from Central Europe.

The video apparently starts 30 minutes into the fight. The angler speaks with great respect for his catch, calling it "my trout with the heart of a bear". He also discovers that the line broke at the very end of his fight.

In all my years in Switzerland, I had no idea that the Dranse has such fish. Thank you for posting this. I never would have guessed this is a brown trout from looking at it. Wow!"

If the fish was caught in Switzerland, anglers must keep all fish caught. There is NO Catch and Release.

"In Switzerland and Germany catch and release fishing is considered inhumane and is now banned.[3"
