This is the reason boats lying on the banks of ponds are turned over carefully down south, there is a good chance a cottonmouth will be lying under it.

When I was a kid, my twin brother and I would carefully turn over our small boat on my parents lake property outside of Carrollton, GA. One of us always carried a single shot Remington .22...90% of the time there was always a Cottonmouth under there and once or twice, a Copperhead... So true...

I can guarantee you if I had a float tube back home in MS, I would have carried a .22 revolver loaded with shot shells. I really prefer something in a .410 or larger.
