Can't remember old age I guess! How much of the front section of a line is weighed to determine a fly lines weight?

Yep, 30 feet exactly of clean line with no leader. Hope you have a scale made to weight line, they really are nice. Larry ---sagefisher---
Well, normally I don't like to get too technical but it is the first 30 feet. Here is a link on how to use the Umpqua Fly Line Scale, a short video that explains it. A very neat tool to have.

You mean this one:

or any of dozens other like it.
This is the actual spec:

Try this. It was developed by Dr. Bill Hanneman, the originator of the CCS.

Be careful how you live. You may be the only Bible some person ever reads.
You can get a digital scale that will weigh in grains for around $10 at Harbor Freight or online.
Thanks to all, I've taken several lines off some reels to be stored, then found I messed up labeling them. I might try the Dr. Bill's scale with the pvc base. Randall
