looks like either a car door crimp or a car power window crimp to me. While not on a bamboo rod, I recently caught a 13" rainbow in current on my 1 wt. rod with no problems. I am saying that the trout story sounds mighty bogus to me. Unless the trout was bionic there is just no way. Must be painful for you to see that your work of art was treated so badly.
I have to admit that it is a bit bothersome. Not because I did the work on the rod, but that it is damaged and the only understandable explanation is abuse, that is what bothers me about it the most....soon to be all fixed up again though. (not at my expense either)
