    Default Sage Xi2 Overline

I have a Sage Xi2 9' 9wt and have been using it with a RIO Outbound about 350 grain-- very nice combination. I am thinking of using it with a 400/450 grain line and would appreciation comments from anyone that has overlined this rod.
    Thanks
    Dave

I have used that rod, and many other 9wts, with a 30ft leadcore shooting head made from Cortland LC-13 (390 grains) and 28 ft shooting heads made from Rio T14 (392) grains. I get uncomfortable when casting heads heavier than that on a 9wt. I know some who use 30ft of T14 (420grns). The rod will handle 400 grains just fine. 450 too if you casting skills are up to it. 450 is a bit heavier than a 13wt fly line.

I have the XI3 9' 9wt and while it is not the same rod, I use 30ft of Rio T14 (420g) on it and it casts well, but to be honest it casts an Airflo 40+ 10wt saltwater line much much better! It also casts a Skagit head 450g Okay spey style, but it is not fun!
If you are happy with the 350g I'd stick with it, or only go a little heavier.
    All the best.

    Dave,

You would not be sorry, especially when roll casting if you have no back casting space.
