A Fly Encouraged by PlanetTrout's pattern

I have, for many years, fished a caddis pupa soft hackle pattern which has worked wonderfully for me and others. If I can locate a picture, I will post it as well.

After seeing a pattern by PlanetTrout, I thought I would morph my soft hackle pattern into the next stage of a caddis, a partially emerged, perhaps crippled caddis with the attached shuck.

Cannot speak to effectiveness, as have not had a chance to fish it, but look forward to doing so.

Hi Byron, I've just looked up where I first came across this pattern and it is miss named there, should be the streaking caddis, appologies for the confusion I was miss informed. Here's a pic of of it, this one isn't mine. I've seen them done on curved and straight hooks.

That makes more sense AlanB. I was trying to imitate a cripple rather than an adult. I shortened the upright deer hair, added a rib, and a trailing shuck to make it more like a cripple.
Make sense?

Makes perfect sense Byron, sure it will do the job. The wing on that photo is a little on the long side. Usually it doesn't go beyond the end of the body. It may be an idea to try tying your dressing on a curved shank hook. Though I know waters here where that fly tied on a curved shank hook would be banned as a wet fly!
Something I often do if I want a trailing shuck is tie a knot in the shuck material to keep it together at the back. It means the shuck is a little more solidly defined.

I follow Davie McPhail on Facebook.
This fly, entitled "StreakingCaddis- Undertaker" appeared yesterday.






Also tried taking a couple pics of my fly "underwater". Hard to do well. I think they give some idea of what it looks like to the trout.
You can see the mirror effect the surface water presents to the trout.
