Default Anniversary hike at Devil's Postpile

Debbie and I celebrated 28 years of marriage on June 21. We stayed in Mammoth Lakes, CA at a nice Best Western and spent most of the day hiking in the mountains. No fishing. We drove in to the ranger station near Devil's Postpile and hiked along the San Joaquin River to that site.

This is the bridge to the Minaret falls trail...

And a few pictures of the postpile...

and no anniversary would be right without a nice dinner...

I am looking forward to 28 more years with my soul mate.
I'm either going to, coming from or thinking about fishing. Jim

Hi Jim. It's nice to see your face and that of your pretty bride. Congrats on your anniversary. The country looks beautiful in CA.

Jim, Congrats on the first 28 years and here's to the next 28. Great to hear of long marriages, my bride and I will be at 26 this October. Can you share any details on the postpile? Is that a natural phenomena? I have never seen anything like it.

    Take care,
    Mike

Mike, Devil's postpile is a columnar basalt formation created about 100,000 years ago. Originally it was included in Yosemite NP but gold was discovered in the area. Here's some info on the monument. http://www.nps.gov/depo/index.htm. You can google more. The whole area is fascinating. Thanks for the kind words. Jim

    Jim,

Very nice pics and congratulations to you and your better half. Love that rock formation; looks like an amped up version of Sheepeater Cliffs in YNP.

    Regards,
    Scott

Thanks for sharing and I certainly hope the next 28 are great.

I love that area having first visited as a child on a family camping trip more than 40 years ago. Thanks for sharing.

Congratulations to you and your lovely for 28 years of marriage. Here's to another 28 years and beyond.

We used to visit the a Devil's postpile when I was a kid. Neat place. I have to bring my wife and kids there. They would be totally amazed.

    Thanks for sharing?
