    The Leonidas is a winged wet, inspired by the classic Dunkeld pattern.





    Leonidas
    Hook: Kamasan B175 #12
    Thread: Benecchi 12/0, black
    Rib: Copper wire, fine bright
    Tail: Hen saddle barbs, dyed yellow
    Body: Mylar #12, gold
    Body hackle: Hen, dyed orange
    Hackle: Hen, dyed red
    Wing: Whiting Farms Coq de Leon hen saddle barbs, dark pardo

    That would fit the roll of the Dunkeld very well for loch fishing. It would also be worth having a few with a beard hackle in place of the palmered hackle to use as a point fly. Also a few on doubles as sea trout flies.

    That palmered hackle looks very light for a red. It looks about the same colour as the orange I use for the Dunkeld.
