In most, if not all, of the south, beavers are loved with about the same affection as a mosquito, not nearly as much as a cottonmouth. There are a pestilence that has flooded what was formerly farmland, which is now considered wetland and the govt. will not allow it to be reclaimed in some cases. Mississippi used to have a standing $5 bounty, they imported alligators to north Mississippi to help control them. I don't know of anything that has been highly successful.
