Being familiar with the Comet tube fly for Atlantic Salmon that wasn't at all what I expected from the title.

Thinking of that Hans, do you ever tie tubes?

    Cheers,
    A.

    Alan,

Like you I am mainly a trout and grayling angler, who dabbles a bit other areas of tying more to get familiar with styles and materials. Tube flies are one of those on the perimeter of my tying - I have tied tube flies but not in great numbers.

    Cheers,

Interesting. Had not seen the TMC202SP before. Any particular reason that you mounted the eyes below the shank?

    Yes there is.

1:12 position in the video I explain my choice.

Then I guess I'll never know. So has FAOL become the comment area for youtube.com? Guess I missed that announcement (sarcasm intended).

*smile* no, it was me typing on a small phone screen at the time, and that seemed the fastest/easiest way. Sorry it ended up with you offended.

I would like to promote the probability that the pattern will travel through the water in the position shown in the still image. Mounting the eyes on top in my mind compromises this, where mounting the eyes underneath promotes it.

    Cheers,
    Hans W

Hans, What is the instrument holding the fly in the photo? It does really look like a vise, rather resembles an old draftsman ink pen.

Uncle Jesse, a friend made me two spring loaded clips to hold the flies in a convenient, and little obtrusive, fashion for me to shoot the fly images. The fine pointed one seen above holds most sizes of hooks, and a second blunter tip version grips the very large irons.

    Cheers,
    Hans W

I am glad you understood the meaning of my question in spite of my poor typing skills. I had wondered about the instrument for quite some time, now I know, it’s a fly holder, a photographic aid.
