Default GUACAMOLE STICK BUG - FOTW - Jun 3, 2013

    GUACAMOLE STICK BUG
Every once in a while a good friend of mine will call me and want to go fishing on the Elk River which is the tail waters below Tim's Ford Dam here in Tennessee. The last time he called, we had a great time together and caught rainbows and browns plus a couple brookies. I noticed that he would get three strikes to my two strikes and I asked him what fly he was using and he told me it was a Guacamole Stick Bug.

    Thanks, John

I need to do more and plan too. I find that I enjoy doing them even though they can be time consuming. Not sure what I have to offer is worth putting out there, but, I will still do more soon.

I got in my box of string (second hand inheritance from a long ago tyer) and found some floss like material of approximately the right color and knocked one conehead and one bead head version. They are an easy tie and should work in Georgia, what I am thinking, silver bead, white marabou, body and white or grizzly hackle equals a crappie and white bass / wiper catcher.

    Jesse,

Please be sure to report how they worked for you. I have had great success with this pattern on all species.

Good looking fly Warren. I'll bet even creek chubs would take a shot at it.

The 2 flies that Warren mentions in his FOTW submission (Guacamole Stick Bug and Eat at Chuck's) were the creations of Chuck Robinson, formerly owner of The Flychucker in Brentwood. He is a master certified casting instructor (FFF) and touched a lot of middle Tennessee fly fishers during the years he spent here. Chuck has since moved to Washington state and is a little closer to his hometown of Kalispell, MT. He's a great all-around guy and I hope to fish with him again someday.
