    Default Fish are okay if...

My grand dad used to save all the innards, heads and waste matter after cleaning any fish he and my dad caught and they went into his garden as fertilzer. He'd plant a little bit in the rows of corn and use more in various parts of his garden. It worked great and he did this for many years. Couldn't wait for the garden to mature and shuck some corn; but, he said the best way is to get the corn into a pot of boiling water within 20 minutes of picking it to avoid the starch in it turning to sugar. Don't know if that's true or not but his corn was always top notch.

Asian Carp are great for the garden and vegetable patch...

Just chop them up, using the Kichen Blender when the wife is not home...

Interesting enough that particular Native American (Tisquantum aka "Squanto") had previously lived in Europe for seven years (both England and Italy) and had learned that trick there. The local tribe didn't do that -- although they planted corn and bean together so that the beans would enrich the soil, while at the same time using the corn stalks as bean poles.

Using fish as fertilizer was apparently standard practice in Europe, but the Pilgrims were city dwellers who knew nothing about farming. (Nor, apparently, did they question why Squanto already happened to speak English.)

There is actually a good size industry down on the gulf coast that converts menhaden to fertilizer and other products.

It's been 2 weeks. Just wondering if any of the fish have sprouted yet. Jim
I'm either going to, coming from or thinking about fishing. Jim
