Default A walk in the Park (not FF)

    Part 1

Wife wanted to get out and stretch her legs so we headed over to the local park

and see how far they've gotten with snow removal. Was hoping they at least had it cleared to the Loop so we could slog up to Granite but no dice; shut down at Avalanche Lake. Nice place for a walk anyway so off we go

McDonald Creek surprisingly clear, still a good bit of snow to come down

a good telephoto would show the pack of mountain goats along the ridge to the left; I don't have a good telephoto

    cedar knees

    Avalanche Creek

    Part 2

looks like a sleeping dino head

don't get a lot of sun in here

    lots of water falling

2 miles in and we reach paydirt; found out later a griz was spotted on the far shore; all we saw was a lone Barrows Goldeneye (lovely bird; beautiful plumage)

walk back out was uneventful; did see a black bear down the road a ways. Fun.

    Regards,
    Scott

Thanks for the pics Scott. Now that I've seen how beautiful Glacier is, I need to put it on my list of places to visit.

Glad you all liked the pics. Avalanche is a short hike right off Going-to-the-Sun Road with not a whole lot of gain in elevation compared to others, and those killer views at the lake. Gets kinda crowded in the summer and the waterfalls are usually a lot smaller, so we figured we'd hit it early in the season. There's places to see in the park off (and on) the beaten path that will blow your hiking boots off. If you ever decide to come out, lemme know.

    Regards,
    Scott
