    Default What happened to WildTroutStreams.com

I was planning to go to visit a new state and wanted to see if the website "wildtroutstreams.com" had any information, but when I clicked my favorite link, the webpage was not avaiable. This was a very informative website with a large amount of GIS information on trout waters in many different states. Most of the data was collected from state fisheries and water quality agencies, and was viewable in Google Earth or other GIS viewers.

Does anyone know what happened to this website? Was it moved, or is it gone for good?

    Does this help?

    The New WildTroutStreams.com

Back in 2006 I used to post here quite a bit. Then I
got busy. I apologize for going awol.

Over this New Year's holiday, I had
the time to comprehensively update WildTroutStreams.com, which is a website I built in 2006 as a
service to the community. There is no advertising on this site, and all of the
information can be downloaded for free.

The new site now takes full
advantage of technology like Google Earth, which was just starting up in 2006.
In addition to the maps and lists we've always provided, we now make available
data files you can load and use in GE.

All of the data is from public
sources, and a lot of it is about the SE. We cover ME-GA (with the exception of
TN). For example, you can download water quality KMZs from WV and NC which show
listed streams that support trout reproduction. There is a dataset from VGDIF
which shows in Google Earth the Class i-iv wild trout streams that they list.
The Eastern Brook Trout Joint Venture basin habitat data (including TN) is also
    downloadable, and much more.

Anyway, I wanted to let you know the site's
been updated, since I think there's a tremendous amount of information that many
readers of this forum would find useful.

    I'm still adding new
information, including more info about SC wts. And I'll eventually be adding TN,
    which I've never covered.

    Thanks,
    Michael

I saw that announcement posted on another forum. The date was 2011, February I believe. I have accessed the site since 2011, but it does not appear to be working now, in 2013.

Try the Wayback machine. It can be found at. http://archive.org/web/web.php

    This is a great site.

They have several archives of the site you want to see.

    Good luck

I was recently looking at old bookmarks and thought I'd give the link to wildtroutstreams.com a try.

The website is up and running! I don't know how long it's been back up, or how long it was down, but it's working today, and with an updated format to what I saw the last time I visited. There are now interactive online maps, so you can view the data without downloading, if you so choose.
