That ham brings back memories. My uncle had a farm and used to cure his own hams in a makeshift shed back of the house. My parents would always go out a get a ham every year. Sometimes bugs would get into some of the hams and they had to be tossed. Even though I was only 9 or 10 years old I acquired a taste for the cured hams-and it's definitely an acquired taste. Can't beat it for breakfast with some eggs, biscuits and red-eye gravy.

I grew up in Fulton,MO where Winston Churchill gave his famous Iron Curtain speech in 1946. He was treated to such a breakfast the next morning and someone asked him how he liked the ham. He supposedly said the pig had risen to his highest nobility.
