Sparkle Dun variations work really well here, strange thing is I have never come across anyone else using them. Good idea with the snow shoe, get every bit of help you can floating them. Some years ago there was an article in FF&FT about using a double wing on larger ones. That worked well as well, but, like the original, never took off over here. Mind you most people look at you aghast if you even suggest trimming a hackle!
Cheers,
A.
Alan,
Thanks for that. That is one of the most interesting things I have learned here. You mean that the Sparkle Dun is not a popular fly "over there"?
I find that remarkable and exceedingly interesting.
Might it be due to tradition? Eschewing wingless flies? Or what, pray tell?
They are a favourite with a few of us who know how effective they are. There have been articles in the comics from time to time. Even so they have just not taken off. What is really strange is Bob Wyatt's DHE, which uses the same wing but on a grub hook, is hugely popular.
Cheers,
A.
