Lightbulb May 2013 Swap of the Month

In deference to bob9 I'm starting the thread early. In deference to Gigmaster I've chosen another historic theme; classic winged bass flies. Dr. James Henshall wrote The Book of the Black Bass in 1881 and revised it several times into the 20th century. It is available as a free PDF download here http://openlibrary.org/books/OL23282...the_black_bass and other places. See the image, below, for Dr. Henshall's Four Favorite Flies (although there is apparently too many swords in the tail of the Henshall). If you have other sources for classic bass flies feel free to share.

    Bill,

Put me down for "The Oriole."
I will use the pattern in "The Global FlyFisher."

Here is a link to an article in FlyTyer http://www.flytyer.com/index.php?opt...id=51&Itemid=0 on Classic Bass Flies. Jwb, it took me a while to find the Wyanoke. Talk about outside comfort zones! It certainly qualifies as a classic bass pattern. Here's a link to a nice photo. http://www.classicflytying.com/index...049&hl=wyanoke.

Of course, we can't ignore Mary Orvis Maybury. She is one of the greatest of classic bass fly tiers / histroians(?). (However, her book is not free...)

Jwb brought up an important point. Some of the materials used in the original patterns are no longer available or may be illegal. Feel free to substitute as necessary.
