Hi Guys, I had my Kingfish trip out of whitianga canceled due to strong winds, but My mate Matt rang to invite me out for a salt water fly trip on Auckland harbor, the weather was bad, strong north east winds and plenty of rain but we managed to find a work up of birds, and fish within 10 minutes of the launch spot in a sheltered area in amongst the navy base. We had a blast, our new chum Michael managed his first salt water fish on fly, a good kahawai:
To give you an idea how well these fish fight, this one was hooked the other side of the wharf in the background and we had drifted this far away before managing to land it.
Then I landed a small Kingfish and so did Matt:
Once the work up died down we tried a few other sheltered spots and managed some nice Snapper:
Matt allso hooked a big King that he had on for a good 10 minutes before the fish found a snag and ended the fight in his favour!
It was a fantastic day out in some pretty snotty weather and Matts new boat handled it all nicely.
All the best.
Mike
