The locals call them beach geese...
That makes me jealous, Art! Way cool.
Speaking of birds, I got to see a common loon close up for the first time ever yesterday.... only ever seen one once before that, and it was a LONG ways away. This dude was at a local lake yesterday. They are rarely seen in Kansas, and most of the time our "oddball" birds show IP in mid-winter after a nasty storm to the north. So this was a real treat! I watched him for maybe 30-40 minutes as close as maybe 40 yards away!
The Green Hornet strikes again!!!
Darn hotel internet; can't get the photos to download. I'll thank you now for posting them although it's probably going to be 10 days 'till I can see them.
If it makes you feel better I am jealous of the mature plumage you get to chase there. Our waterfowl are mostly gone South before they prime up. I literally bought bronze mallard several times this winter!
Loons are common here and watching them herding schools of just-stocked rainbows in local lakes is an amazing thing. They will catch and swallow several before coming to the surface.
Nice images of some Emperor Geese. Rarely see them south of Alaska.
