    Default OK here goes

Here is a weird one it seems! I want to build a 7Ft #10 Fly Rod the problem i have is it will have to be on a spinning blank. Which weight blank would be usable. The rod doesn't have to be a casting machine 30-40Ft its a boat rod so nuttin fancy. I don't really know where to start. I also thought a 4piece fly rod but lose the 4th section?????
Advice, warnings and jokes all apreciated

Use your intended rod weight (10) as a numerator over 16 , and translate into an ounce figure . 10/16=5/8 , Find a spinning blank with an average lure rating of 5/8th oz. , sav a blank that is rated for 1/2-3/4oz lures would do the trick . This info is base on text that I've read on the rodbuilding board, I have never had to use it , but it has been given a number of time .
    Good luck , JH

Hi planetwarrior. You're right. That is a weird question, or I should say, a weird spec for a fly rod. I'm curious what you would use such a rod for. Casting would be very difficult it would seem and I know you said you'll be fishing from a boat, but how does this change things for you.
    Thanks,

Warrior, I may already have exactly what you want. I got this rod in a trade a couple of years ago and found it so novel that I just kept it. It is a 7' Edwards flyrod that has to be at LEAST a 9 or 10 wt. rod. I can send pictures of this to anyone that would like to see it. I have never found any information on it in any of the archives anywhere. Very unusual rod to say the least, and cast surprizingly well for a telephone pole with guides on it.....

Sorry Florida, been a lil busy to check back. The rod would be used to fish for Murray Cod in heavy cover. Need a rod with a lil less give to pull em out of the sticks.

The casts are not long maybe 50FT I was thinking a rod that size could handle it, and have less chance of being broken at the boat. Very Strong fish
