I've been playing around with Adam Trina's Carnage flies. Using the 2mm foam, I ended up with a chunky-bodied fly that, in the right colors, could pass for a cicada:
Haven't had a chance to fish them yet, so no recommendations, but if you slap foam and elk hair on a hook, it'll probably get some fish's attention.
