What really cracked me up about the word is my very close connection to the Pacific green rattlesnake, which the Audobon book only lists as "Western Rattlesnake," found throughout eastern WA and surrounding states. Their Genus and species, Crotalus viridus, sounds an awful lot like Scrotulus device... If you are inclined toward thinking out of the box... or around the corner... or somewhere else in general!
