Video-rods tested to the breaking point

Last year/the year before, someone posted a video showing rods being tested to the breaking point. Did a search but was not able to find it. Anyone remember that video? if so, could you give me the link if you still have it handy? Would like to send it to a friend of mine. Thanks. George

This is a test of an Echo rod that was stressed to the breaking point intentionally. I believe that it is a 9' 10wt 4pc rod.

What really cracked me up about the word is my very close connection to the Pacific green rattlesnake, which the Audobon book only lists as "Western Rattlesnake," found throughout eastern WA and surrounding states. In central WA while going to college they were everywhere and I really liked them. Nearly harmless, they took tremendous hassling to trigger a strike...

Their Genus and species, Crotalus viridus, sounds an awful lot like Scrotulus device... If you are inclined toward thinking out of the box... or around the corner... or somewhere else in general!

As for the personal protective device, it looked like a piece of scrap metal he found lying in the shop to me, it would have appeared to have offered protection back to his hip pockets. As a safety consultant I would emphasize proper personal protective equipment is very important.

My question is what did the test prove? I have never tried personally or have I ever seen anyone else try to lift a fish or anything else with a fishing rod with the rod held vertically. Yes the flex of the rod was greater than I expected, but what useful informatio is gained from the test other than Echo make a tough rod?

At our fishing club last year we had a session on knots and leaders. One question was, "How strong do your knots have to be, and what is the weekest part of your system?". Using a less expensive 6wt Loomis rod, we bent it almost double (without breaking), yet the pull on the tippet was less than 2lb (we had a fish weigh scale tied to the tipped and anchored to a table). Neither the rod nor the tippet are going to break unless suddenly pressured with a violent (for them) load. Steady pressure is just absorbed by the rod under normal conditions.

It's a demonstration, not a test. We're talking about Echo right? So the YouTube pitch / demonstration worked.
