    Hans and Mr. Bingen,

Great looking fly; very simple, yet clever design.

    Scott

nice looking fly and interesting tying technique.... you are making harder to keep my resolution to tie only the patterns I often fish.

Nice tie, Hans. I've got to remember to use that technique more often of keeping a long tag end of thread to strengthen the hackle.

    Great, as always, Hans.
Is the "tail" there for floatation and balance since it is a caddis imitation?

    Hans,

Although I (and the Whiting flock) love the CDC and Elk, this fly is a lot of fun to tie; some chickens are gonna have to give it up, and some ducks are gonna have warmer butts. Thanks again for posting.

Good stuff, Scott. You might want to lessen the amount of deer hair on the first one. The second one is spot on.

And yes, a fun to tie pattern it is - now get it wet

    Cheers,

    Hans,
Couldn't resist tying an "animal". Where and when I fish, a size 14 is about the largest caddis present. Think this will work? The hook is size 14, but not a long shank 14.
    Thanks,
    Byron

    Byron,

The pattern scales down quite nicely. In the really small sizes, say #20 and smaller, using CDC in place of deer hair also works.

I think you will be well pleased once you have tried the pattern on the stream.

    Cheers,
    Hans
