Default Nice Rainbow caught by my ten year old

Here is a video of my oldest son bringing in a nice rainbow. This was on Dry Run Creek in Flippin Arkansas, after spending the morning at the sowbug roundup. This was on a 3 wt. rod I had built for him for this trip(5 wt tippet with a size 18 midge). Just be sure to ignore the part where some idiot says it is an 8lb fish(he sounds a lot like me), maybe not 8, but a prize catch for my oldest. Of my three sons, he was the least interested in fly-fishing. I had built each of them their own rod, and this got him excited about fishing. I worked with him for about 30 minutes on mending and line management, and Dry Run Creek is such an awesome place, he was catching fish in no time. He saw that every time he got his line mended properly, he had a chance to catch a fish, and all of a sudden, he had it figured out. All three boys caught a ton of fish, and had a lot of fun at the Sowbug Roundup, and on the water. The blank was a Bingham Enterprise rod, and it by far the best blank I have built on to date.

Nope, good video, darn nice fish. I hope the photo came out good so you can frame it for him to have forever.

BTW, I weighed a 8 lb. fish for a guy one day, it was as long as my arm and I have long arms.

We got a picture as well before releasing it. Right before we caught this, I helped a young lady fishing past us with some mending tips. She had been casting on the far side of the stream for an hour with no success, while watching my kids tear them up. I asked her if she wanted some pointers, and she said absoutely. I taught her how to mend, and how to roll cast, and on her 4th try she caught a cutthroat that was about the same size as my sons fish. I netted the fish just as her dad made it over from where his son was fishing. Turns out we are from the same town in MS. That little girl was smiling ear to ear when she showed that fish to her dad. I don't think my son was the only kid that became a flyfisher for life that day.
