Is there an advantage to useing mono thread? We have used it for some stuff and find there are things we do like and things we question about it....such as it's ability to unravel "way back" from where we break it. Is cementing knots a good thing?

For tying hair bugs... when you need a lot of strength to tie down the material. The unravel problem is easy to overcome on those large flies. I use Hansen hard as nail and then switch to a regular thread to do the head of the fly (in the deer hair bugs).
I don't use for anything else.

Mono is pretty much invisible unless you wnat to color it with a marker. It ties off with a whip finish as well as any other thread in my opinion. I use super glue and nail polish to finish knots, more glue than the other. I think mono is stronger than thread of similar diameter.

I use it for a lot of saltwater flies, especially the ones I tie with Congo Hair (or similar stuff like EP fibers) where I don't want a colored thread.
