I accept that oviposting caddis tend to be females, yes

That rarely are "hatching" Caddis on the surface for food due to the incredibly fast emergence and subsequent flight?
I have seen fast emergence (caddis popping up and taking off) and I have seen much slower emergence, where the adult caddis struggles to get airborne.

I am not sure what you are getting at?

What I do know is that (dry) caddis imitations are often very, very effective
