Thread: BWO Spinner in size #22

Default BWO Spinner in size #22

I've been tying a bunch of these little buggers lately...

Depending on the number of insects on the surface of the water, I like to fish this mayfly spinner as a dropper fly both on the surface and below. I like to go the opposite. If there are a lot of insects floating spent on the surface, then I fish this fly as a drowned BWO. If there are only a few mayfly spinners on the surface, then I float this fly. I want the odds in my favor and don't want my fly to compete with the hundreds of real spinners available.

    Doug,

Very nice fly. I use something like that in different paint schemes for tricos, but tie it on an emerger hook (Dai Riki 125) to get more gap clearance.

    Regards,
    Scott

Yes Scott that's a good point for the smaller hook sizes like this one.... I've done that myself, with scud or emerger type hooks you can tie a size 22 fly on a size 20 hook because of the shorter shank and benefit from the larger hook gap... that's a good tip for folks Scott, thanks.
