    Default Bullethead Stone SBS

Serendipity meet skwala; bullethead version of Bloom's Dead Foam Stone in olive tones. Change colors to suit bug.

    hook - Dai Riki 280 #8
    thread - UTC 140 olive/yellow
    egg sac - foam black
    tail - biots olive
body - Congo Hair olive (twisted)
    rib - UTC yellow
    underwing - landscape fabric
    wing - deer hair
legs - rubber medium olive barred
    indicator - foam strip
    head - deer hair olive

    Part 1

mash down barb and attach thread at head (gap width)

cut, clean and stack a clump of deer hair; measure for length (hook shank)

trim to length, hold clump on top of hook at head; 2 soft loops right behind hook eye

    pull tight

    and allow hair to spin

    trim butts

    wrap hook shank with thread

    brush a little Super Glue

    Part 2

taper tip of foam strip and tie in

wrap back to point above barb

fold foam over to create egg sac and wrap

    tie in biot tail near

    and far

tie in clump of Congo Hair

tie in ribbing; I initially tried spanflex (shown here) but that didn't look right so I subbed tying thread

    twist Congo Hair

    Part 3

and wrap forward; tie off and trim

wrap ribbing forward; tie off and trim

    prep wing (hook gap width)

measure for length (hook shank), add a it of Super Glue and tie in

clean, stack and measure (hook shank) a clump of deer hair; tie in and trim butts

push hair at head back with finger (try to ensure even distribution around hook)

pull fibers back over body and tie down

realize you meant to use yellow thread; switch thread, repeat the previous 2 steps, then tie in legs (you can skip this step if you start with yellow thread - highly recommended)

add foam indicator, whip finish, SHHAN

trim out hair on underside and you're done

    Regards,
    Scott

Simplified variation on a variation; Furry Foam body instead of twisted poly (Congo Hair) I used previously. Also omitted the wing and just let the hair from the bullethead suffice.

everything's the same up to this point

trim a piece of Furry Foam and wrap it around the shank (seam on top of hook where underwing will cover it)

tie down Furry Foam at egg sac

create a segmented body with thread wraps

everything else is the same from this point on

    serendipitous comparison

    Regards,
    Scott

Carnage stonefly; still trying to work out the kinks in this pattern.
