Wooly Buggers are interesting things... So many have so many tiny adaptations they believe make them "Killers" yet it is obvious they do not need the Killer Touches... I almost never fish them.

I am a pedantic snob fly tyer... While many of the patterns I fish are suggestive the bugger seems to have too many of the suggestive wrinkles in one neat package. I need to know my fly is more than than the Golden Mean, more than the the best all-arounder.

From Harley Reno's head-standing, jig hook Elvira to Denny Rickards's Seal Buggers they are all a case of generalists doing a tremendous job... UNLESS it does too "gooda" job...

In many AK lakes a float tuber needs to do no more than drag a bugger around the lake to be successful. Maybe not as good as a specialist though...

Okay, I hate buggers because they prove I may be wasting a lot of time on a lot of patterns...
