Default Was purusing ebay and looking at old flyreels does anyone collect old reels.

I had time and was looking at different rods this AM and ran into some new old stock fly reels ,now I am not talking labels or Ross or such I mean old pfleger martins Cortland.Thought they'd look neat in a display case.

I collect all sorts of vintage tackle fly and otherwise. I especially LOVE MEDALISTS! I don't have one that is pimped out yet....

Display case my butt....I still use a whole gaggle of Old Medalist and some of the new china models. They work just as well as they did when they were new.

Ditto, except that I've replaced any non-USA models with the good old homegrown variety. Not that there was anything really wrong with the others, it's just one of those things I have to do.

I do a lot of reel collecting, but I never really collected fly reels. I buy them to fish.

Here's a pre-1939 model 1494 Medalist. 1939 was the year that the adjustable drag was introduced and this reel features the earlier spring-and-pawl check system. I acquired it quite a few years ago and have done nothing except to clean it up a bit. I use it a lot, especially fishing for "harvest trout" (sea-run cutthroat) in the summer and fall.
