I want to make some frog patterns for bass. Has anyone tied any effective patterns they would be willing to share?

About the only frog I use anymore is the STP frog. I think the thing is a killer. Here is the details from the manufacturer of the cutter...

When I get the cutter out, I usually cut and tie a dozen of them at a time. Depending on how many I give away, thats usually enough for a season for me.

I tie a white Gartside Gurgler and color the top and sides with markers.

I cannot vouch for its effectiveness but this is my attempt at duplicating the "Snagproof" frog. There is no tying involved its all cutting gluing and shaping foam. I started with a foam door knob hanger that is about a 1/4" thick. It cast slightly better than a brick you need a 6 wt. or heavier. The hook is a plastic worm hook I had, not sure of the size. A friend in Mississippi had been ask to help thin out the yearling bass in a friends farm pond and needed something for the task. Not sure how he did but it should have worked well, IMHO!!

I think Coach Bob has some on this site. Look in the fly tying archives. Jim

Oh Hey bmaher287, I didn't realize you are new to the site. Welcome to you from SoCal. If you go to the Home page there's a search box in the upper left screen. Type in Frog Flies, or whatever you want to look for, then click your enter button. That should bring up a list of archived patterns by lots of folks here.

I love love, fishing with frogs. I too like the STP frog. Easy to tie and it has good action. If you're interested, here's a blog post I did for frogs: http://www.flyfishfood.com/2013/02/f...r-froggin.html

I just purchased a cutter in size 6. Going to order another one in size 2. I'm really interested and curious to tie this fly and try it out. The Size 6 will be used on my 4wt!

When it comes to surface feeding bass, the fanciest foam frog or just a bottle cork and hook will be equally effective.
I'll usually go with something in between like a Devil Bug variation.
