I have been tying for about 5 years now, and have always had problems tying wings on traditional dry flies. So much so, I have been tying them without wings for some time (i.e.: an Adams with only tail, dubbing and hackle). I haven't noticed any difference using them this way as compared to flies I have bought from various fly shops, etc., they seem to catch fish just as well. My question is; are they really necessary, or are they just for the fisherman rather than the fish?
