Saw this somewhere; tied it, tried it, embraced it. Simple and fast, the ostrich hackle is easy to work with especially for smaller flies (you could easily take this down to a #20). Bead head or weight is optional but I like to fish this as an emerger.


hook - Tiemco 3769 #16
thread - UTC 70 woodduck
Tail/body - Pheasant tail fibers
rib - UTC wire x-small copper
flashback - mylar tinsel medium holo-copper
softhackle - ostrich ginger/gold




Part 1


Mash down barb and attach thread at 75% mark






tie in copper wire and wrap back to point above barb





measure a few pheasant tail fibers (shank length) and tie in





wrap forward to 75% mark






fold fibers back and tie down





tie in tinsel and continue wrapping back to tail tie-in





move thread back to 75% mark, wrap pheasant fibers forward and tie off





pull tinsel forward over top
