Another Wulff variation, this one from Harry Murray, possibly the greatest registered pharmacist/fly fisherman known to mankind. Originally tied for the quill gordon hatch in early spring in the Blue Ridge, and in smaller sizes for the blue quills; although it doesn't look like either bug to me, the fly has always been a great producer that time of year and Harry's a heck of a lot better tyer, fisherman and pharmacist than I'll ever be so I'll shut up.


hook - Dai Riki 320 #12
thread - Uni 8/0 camel
tail - moose body
body - Fly Rite Poly quill gordon/brown drake yellow (if you can't find the stuff, just mix some brown and yellow dubbing)
wing - calftail yellow
hackle - brown & grizzly


Part 1



mash barb and attach thread at 75% mark









clean, stack (you're going to want the widest stacker you have) and measure a clump of calftail (shank length)









tie in with 2 firm wraps









continue back with firm wraps and trim butts at an angle; brush with Sally









clean, stack and measure a clump of moose body hair (shank length)









tie down and wrap forward (firmly) to wing butts









trim tail butts and smooth over with tying thread









move thread in front of wing and create thread dam









crease with thumbnail to force fibers up and back
