    Default UPDATE: On my daughter

She went into surgery yesterday at 7:30 a.m. and was in the O.R. until 5:15 p.m. yesterday evening. She had three Specialist in the O.R. a Bone specialist, Vascular Surgeon and a Plastic Surgeon. They thought that they may have to remove her thigh muscle, which they did not have to, Thank God. If they did, they would of taken a muscle from her abdomen. After several hours of working to remove the tumor from around bone, nerves and muscle, they finally got it out, I believe around 2:00 in the afternoon and shown no signs of it having spread to anywhere else which was great news.
They removed an 8" section of the nerve running throught the thigh so she will have nerve damage for the rest of her life. They also took out a large piece of her Femur and replaced it with a rod and on top of that, they took out her hip joint because she had been walking so long with this that it destroyed the joint so, now she has a new hip joint. She will most likely have months of Rehabilitive therapy and will have to walk with a cane for the rest of her life but, I like the sound of, the rest of her life. She will most likely have to continue to do the Radiation and Chemo. for awhile.
By the way, the treatment she had gotten leading up to the surgury did nothing to help. According to her Dr. the tumor may have even grown a little. So now we wait and recover and hope they don't find any Cancer post op.

Please continue to keep her in your thoughts and prayers

    Scott,

You know that the prayers, thoughts and good wishes of me, my family, my fishing cronies and their families, and the fun-bunch affectionately known as "my kids" and their families are sent to the heavens on your daughter's behalf each and every day. We pray that the Good Lord watches over your daughter and blesses her with good health in the years to come. I know this disease far too well, having sat on both sides of the table, so to speak.

Come tomorrow's tying classes, "my kids" will again send their prayers skyward... From the mouths of children to God's ear... Stay strong, my friend... Jerry, aka hairwing530

Thanks guys. Right now she is having to deal with the excrusiating pain which they haven't been able to control enough to make her comfortable. Hopefully today will be a big day in that the find the right amount of pain therapy to give her.

I can certainly sympathise on the chemo. I don't like it at all. Radiation treatments just made me tired.

    I'm praying for her.

    Scott,

Thanks for the "thumbs up." I try to exceed expectations whenever I can. Just ask my oncologists...

The addition of the two feathers(?) in your box is a nod to a tradition with some of my Scot and Irish relatives. When I visited them years ago, I saw more fishing in both Scotland and Ireland than I even knew existed. And, a few of said relatives put in a feather or two among the bags that they took astream just for luck. So.....

By the way, its color comes from its placement on a pheasant... Hope things are starting to improve for your daughter. Stay in touch, my friend... Jerry, aka hairwing530, aka soon to be "Captain Hooks" (Santa needs some rest...)

Thank you Jerry. Kevin, how are you doing my friend? You don't know how upset I was when I heard of your illness and hospital stay. It took me totally by surprize. I will pray for you as I also pray for Jerry.
