Thread: Would you be interested in going salmon fishing in Yemen?

Default Would you be interested in going salmon fishing in Yemen?

I recently heard about an eccentric Yemeni sheik that had arranged with a British salmon expert to bring thousands of salmon to his country. There probably aren't a lot of people who know about this, and fishing there might just be "off the wall" so to speak.

I've done some fishing in pretty remote places in the past, and I can tell you that a trip like that sounds like it would be pretty challenging - and who doesn't like challenging fishing?

If we could get group together to go there, say of 4-8 people, would you be interested in going along?

    What do you think?

I was thinking that this is a fun idea, but is it based on fact or fiction?

I'm pretty well equipped for a trip like this, as far as normal salmon fishing gear and clothing etc., but I'm not equipped with things like a saifani janbia (See picture.) These knives are often worn dignitary persons; among them are the Hashimites (an Arab tribe, which claims a direct bloodline to the prophet Muhammad), the judges, famous merchants and businessmen. Some of these Janbias cost about Yr 70 millions, like that of sheikh Al-Shaif, which goes back to Imam Yahia Hameed Aldeen and costs $1,000,000. I might have to cut back some on Christmas gifts if I were to buy one yet this year.

Yes, I think this is the real thing.

Getting back to the janbia, do you think we'd need one if we only do catch and release?

I'd at least want a ghille with some demonstrated salmon fishing experience.

Before it was a movie, it was a book, and a decent one, although not about fishing.

Why would I ever wan to go back to the sand box? They do not like Americans over there. I have nothing against deserts, I actually loved being in the Mojave and Chihuahua Desert of the U.S. Now if you want to sneak out to catch some of the golden bows that General Yeager helped introduce to our high desert I am all for it.
