Default What are you using on your tying bench that is a little different?

Hap just showed us the burnishers he makes and uses that I have never heard of before. What are you using that is a little different and not normally mentioned with tying benches and setups?

Mine is simple I have a 1" magnet attached to my bench, very handy for keeping small steel parts and tools in place. I also use a smooth tapered ballpoint pen for a half hitch tool.

My setup is permanent I have a piece of white foam shelf liner about eighteen inches square in front of me. It keeps stuff from rolling around and I can see small stuff that I have laid down. I also have a couple of those magnetic squares that come in hook packages attached to the desk. When I am tying a certain hook I'll put those on the strip and they stay in place.

One handy, but off-the-wall item I have on my desk is one of those little 3-legged plastic jobbies that holds up the lid of a pizza box. On the underside of it I have epoxied a strong rare-earth magnet. Works great to hold a bunch of hooks waiting their turn in the vice.

Don't have any great revelations, but ...
    1. I have a couple of magnetic disks on my vise pedestal -- one for hooks and one for finished flies.
    2. I have also have a small patch of velcro on my vise pedestal for bits of dubbing.
    3. I have a "Chop & Chop" mat under my vise and work surface. This is a thin, flexible mat designed for cutting and chopping in the kitchen. It provides a work surface to protect against cement drips, markers, razor cuts, etc. Mine is white, so it makes a good backdrop for visibility.
    4. I have a 6" plastic ruler (and another that I carry on stream). This is great for measuring hooks, materials, and bugs.

I've always been a tinkerer so I'm curious to hear what others have come up with.

I keep a 6 oz can that tomato paste came in on the table. I keep super glue, a lighter, a small brush that came from an electric razor kit and a tube of wax in the can.

Thanks to you guys I will be adding a magnet to my collection.

If I ever sat down, facing that, you probably wouldn't see me for a couple of days.
