Default THE PINE SQUIRREL CRAWFISH - FOTW - Dec 3, 2012

    THE PINE SQUIRREL CRAWFISH
There are lots of crayfish patterns (a quick check of the FOTW archives found at least 6 crawfish patterns), and this is understandable when you consider how important this freshwater crustacean is to the diet of many fish species. In waters where the crawfish is plentiful, they make up two-thirds or more of the diet of the adult smallmouth bass. Crawfish also are an important staple to largemouth bass, bluegill, and trout. On a trip to New Orleans a few years ago, I even found them tasty myself!

Thanks for posting this crawdad. It's an easy tie, and if fish eat it, and I'm sure they do, that's even better. I saw this posted before and bought the jigheads. All I need to do now is tie some up some for bass. Have you ever fished any olive colored ones?
    Thanks Again,
    Bruce

Really neat fly, very well presented.

Arrow How fast is a Pine Squirrel Crawfish ...

    ... you might ask ??

Left Virginia Monday. Arrived Western Montana Tuesday. Wednesday, it found its way to a crick ...

... and that was that ...

We had a good time, Jeff. Unfortunately, I broke off the PS Crawfish in some nasty structure after catching the one fishy. But he was a nice one ...

... well, a bit on the chubby side, but still nice.
